About Rozie Lee Educational and Economic Advancement Group

Our name and legacy

Rozie Lee Educational and Economic Advancement Group was founded in 2024 by Dr. Douglas L. Maclin to advance educational equity, strengthen workforce pathways, and empower communities through strategic leadership and school improvement. The firm is named in honor of his mother, Rozie Lee Chatman-Maclin, a lifelong educator whose commitment to education shaped generations of students and inspired the mission of this work.

Born in 1941, Rozie Lee Chatman-Maclin grew up in Holly Springs, Mississippi, where education was deeply embedded in her family's legacy. She was the daughter of Deacon D.L. Chatman, the first Black educator in Holly Springs. Following in that tradition, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Rust College in 1963 and dedicated her career to teaching and mentorship.

Rozie Lee believed that education was the most powerful pathway to opportunity. She taught history to both elementary and high school students and extended her service to communities across the country, including teaching on Native American reservations. Later, after relocating to Chicago, she continued her commitment to learning by teaching in adult continuation education programs, helping individuals return to education and expand their opportunities.

Her career reflected a deep belief that education should not only inform but transform lives and communities.

Today, the Rozie Lee Educational and Economic Advancement Group, LLC carries forward that legacy. The firm works with schools, districts, and community partners to strengthen the systems that open doors to opportunity ensuring that students, families, and communities have access to the educational and economic pathways that Rozie Lee dedicated her life to advancing.

Her legacy remains at the heart of this work: education as a catalyst for opportunity, dignity, and generational progress.
